Innovative Brain Surgery for Epilepsy at University Hospitals Offers Hope to Patients with Few Options
Dr. Hans Luders is one of two University Hospitals doctors responsible for bringing an innovative surgical technique -- multiple hippocampal transection -- for the treatment of epilepsy to the hospital from Japan, where it was developed. The technique, which uses a series of shallow cuts in the brain tissue rather than removing any of it completely, can help patients who would otherwise suffer irreversible memory or language loss from traditional surgery.
